Things to see and hold, Colin Heminway, digital processing/print, live performance, 2012
This work explores the contemporary relationship between image and object. Interested in mixing real things, matter that can be held, with the intangible and increasing presence of digital imagery.
The work questions What is real and What is false, the answer to which is becoming harder to define and more debatable. As an analogy to the pseudo reality that contemporary digital imagery offers, a book, Fun and games, is placed and promoted as a real, unique, literary entity. Transient ‘Pop Up’ book signings take place with readings. As the book is only available directly online, signed labels are handed out by the author which contain the URL address of where to buy a copy. Once delivered, the signature can be stuck into the book. The author is a fictitious creation so the role can be acted by any and several people.
