My intention in this ‘Metamorphosis’ series is to create illusions of depth and movement on the surface of ceramic artworks, through the use of different degrees of colour contrast and gradation. Some areas appear to advance away from the surface, and others fade and almost disappear into and beyond it. This creates a visual flux, which is further enhanced by the apparently morphing triangular components that lead our eyes around and beyond the ambiguous space presented to it. Contrast/kontrasti plays a crucial role in manipulating visual effects on a two-dimensional surface, and my intention is to explore and exploit these effects in my porcelain artworks.
