The film explores the modern Christian idea of “building a personal relationship to Christ,” The lead character, Henri is mired in failed expectations, and undergoes an unorthodox ritual/symbolic killing of self, from this, a personal Jesus emerges, carrying Henri through the transition from hopeless pessimism to a self that can exist within both successes and failures, redefining spiritual home and self. Jesus Christ materializes as female at the point of despair. The manifestation of a female Jesus reinterprets the meaning and significance of the established representation of God as a person and secondly a man. Female Jesus explores the potential fluidity and meaning of gender in relation to God.
