Szilárd Podmaniczky: A Fine Hungarian Dictionary
REAP The man was reaping with a sharp scythe, the sound of the blade was hissingly quaverring on the wheat strands. He stopped, wiped his forehead and honed the scythe drawing the honing stone on both sides. He has been working his twentieth summer on the fields. There might be another twenty, he thought, then I can have a rest at last.
BALE The little boy had just one thought, then built a little hovel of straw bales on the stubble. He slipped in and out, started to feel at home and played around, after a while all the same he had the feeling of want. He wondered about what was happening inside the straw meanwhile.
SPIKE The wheat was waving in the summer wind as single spikes, half still green, half brown and silvery. Heavy crops can be expected to be this year, the man told his wife in the car, who started to overtake a trailer truck.
Compact is a collaboration of a writer Szilárd Podmaniczky and a visual artist Árpád Forgó, both from Hungary.
