Who said that a painting is dead object hung on a white wall? Painting is live art. It’s a living object that reflects the world of the artist and of the viewer. A painting is the perfect reflection. We can see our world, our memories, our personal history or experiment emotions through a painting. When making the image, those hidden mirrors of myself also come to life in the piece. The society I live in, my personal issues… All that creates the inspiration, creates faces and objects on the painting I am doing. Even when the piece is not meant to be an autobiography.
In my current projects, I mix painting and video projection. The “projection” on the painting is a way to materialise “reflection”.
I use very short homemade video footage. They are like images taken from dreams, personal memories, places I like… They come on the painting as a part of it. Videos create new lines, new perspectives, faces…
Projecting those images is a way for me to invite the viewer to get involved in the painting and to use it as a mirror in total consciousness. I want the viewer to take the painting out of the wall and bring it to the real 21st century life.
