My body of work can loosely be seen as an essay on physical and mental disorder, cruelty, violation, deformation, corrosive discomfort, crime, anguish and death. I take fragments of found objects that are unknown and explored inside-out, and outside-in through a series of unpremeditated processes in three dimensional form. The ongoing series shown here: ‘Heads Have Holes Have Heads’ are photographic representations of the sculptures, taken on a found camera.

The deliberate iteration of the busts in only photographic form and subsequent isolation of the physical bust from the viewer leaves them with frustration, confusion and questioning the veracity of digitally received ‘info’ in an age where modern lives depend on it. The abbreviated and cryptic titles in a distorted language footnote life that is hastened, truncated and malformed.

I enquire into a humanity that feels, fears, and learns restriction, and one that results in an abominable interiority. The series is a daring and degeneratively intentioned experience of the malevolent Unknown driven by momentary absences of restriction. Devised over a series of ‘broken happenings’ — motivated somewhat by a raw and unconscious state — assemblage technique, random thoughts, naivety, velocity, and prolific energy are utilized to sculpt the identity of this Unknown, and ultimately Unknowable. The works suggest inadequate and hence eternally incomplete portraits.

Motivated by my boredom and disgust, the busts are all created, photographed, dismantled, violated, reconstructed and recast indefinitely. ‘The’ and ‘The The’ suggest a suffering and violence yet belie a redemption, purity, elegance and beauty that is all the more unsettling as it is impermanent and to be subjected newly to treatments, processes,…
