My practice embraces the idea of ‘noticing’ the finer details of one’s own locale: actively observing the interrelationships between its mundane, everyday aspects and the grander biosphere as a whole.
I am currently preoccupied with the underlying structure of living organisms, that acts as a framework for the overlying form, but only becomes apparent after death and subsequent decay. Beauty can also be found here.
The ‘Vessel’ series of photographs examines this idea, paring down the image to its very essence and emphasising the linearity and purity of the form. The attendant shadows create a narrative, a contrast between the living and the dead, a dancing, playful dichotomy.
“Shadows are like doors, the doors of not-doing. You may say that there is movement in them, or you may say that the lines of the world are shown in them, or you may say that feelings come from them.”
–Carlos Castaneda
