My paintings are very much about telling stories. In a single narrative I bring together drawings from my sketchbooks, bits of written texts and create a multi-layered composition. The themes are very much about tales based on my own life experiences and memories and I see the paintings as almost personal diaries. In addition I bring to the piece external influences such as references to films, music and the mass media as well as a surreal, cartoony element. I think the way I relate to ‘’creation stories’’ is by the idea that as an artist I compose a completely new environment by bringing together my own thoughts/experiences and bits and pieces from the world around me to create stories which hopefully viewers will want to engage with.
