‘Void’ – lighting. mild steel, copper, brass, nickel, cast iron, LED
Inga is inspired by soothing, tactile forms; Objects that are comforting to hold — seed pods, pebbles, and the spoons she has collected since childhood. She aims to create a feeling of security in her work — echoing the inner sanctuary we escape to when threatened, frightened or insecure.
Inga’s sculpture deals with the conflict of strength and weakness. Using bound steel and tightly woven structures to embody the resilient, emotional barriers we put up; offering a tantalising glimpse into a protective, womb-like haven. Working with salvaged materials, which have been exposed to the elements — there is something incredibly satisfying in creating an aesthetically beautiful object from something seemingly worthless. Inga takes full advantage of the raw qualities and exploits the unique characteristics, imperfections and surfaces. It seems almost barbaric to hide these ‘human’ qualities under artificial patinas and finishes.
