“Finding the Vein” is about hope. I confess to being a hope fiend, a hopeless hopeaholic. If addiction is a disease of hopelessness, is it ironic or merely logical for one to be addicted to hope? I depict the words “finding the vein” flowing across thirty journal pages since hope is my water and daily bread. I depict the words finding the vein in gold because hope is alchemy, transforming the dross of everyday travails into gold. I hope not only to satisfy my needs, but also to satisfy my dreams and desires. Desires may never be fulfilled, dreams often do not come true, and dreams that do come true may fail. Hope itself is the dream, the dream of a lifetime coming into being.
