Our work is highly influenced by cinema, video games, and comic art—sources regularly featuring collisions between humans and technology. Our collaborative process itself is a hybrid between man and machine: as digital artists we are constantly interacting with computers—as well as one another. We swap our electronic files back and forth, remixing and transforming them until the artwork takes on a life of its own. Sometimes the end result is like a Frankenstein’s monster, a human structure made from random visual parts. Other times the images themselves appear blown apart, like dissected machines in schematic drawings, or bodies in anatomy books.
We often use parts from previous artworks in future pieces, the way you might transplant a car engine or a human heart; this keeps our art in a perpetual state of metamorphosis. That is why we often use the ‘transformer’ as a theme in our work: these humanoid machines, in constant states of flux, symbolize the evolutionary spirit of our creative process.
