The drawings are inspired by ocean surf ( I live near the Atlantic here in South West France) The repetition of the waves is tied to song and text, some of which finds its way into the images. The songs tend to be drones and deliberately repetitive — it is intended to invoke trance and harks back to shamanic practice. The palette and imagery is watery too and loosely reminds me of the work of the first nation people of the Pacific North West. Their artefacts had a strong influence on me when I lived in Vancouver, the bold design and iconography has a really contemporary feel that I like.
Music that accompanied the creation of the drawings: Spaceman 3, Nadja, Jesu, Wooden Shjips, Moon Duo, Psychic Dancehall and Neil Young!
Text that was in mind “November Surf” by Californian poet Robinson Jeffers.
