Idle monochrome situates itself between the contrasts of Painting and Sculpture. The work is referring to Modernist monochrome paintings, from the notions of perspective paintings, therefore questioning whether a flat colour of paint can be 3-Dimensional. The canvas is absent leaving the paint to hang, creating a tension as to whether the paint will fall. Visually the work looks like an upside down sculpture sitting on a plinth, hinting at whether this can be referred to as a sculpture. There is a wit about the work as the paint is rolled up into a tongue-like shape, signifying the playfulness of paint and the naivety of the work.
