Introduction: The story uses the dagli form, a very short narrative. We are at the limen of a wedding feast, the solemnity of the church ritual yields to the call of photographs, pockets of people already begin to coagulate into festive groups as the master of ceremonies/maid of honor calls the couple’s friends and family in preordained slices. The noise of the church provides some interference, as does the maid of honor’s drive to include all the important people in the life of the couple – particularly the discarded, the uninvited.
May we call the parents of the bride to come to the altar and have your picture taken with the new couple …
… call the groom’s parents … what?
Excuse me … guardians or representatives of the groom to join the new …
These rabbit rays of sunshine! Our happy couple!
May we ask the old woman outside …
… invite the relatives of the bride to come up …
… of the groom?
… friends of the groom, could you please …
We now ask the enemies, the enemies of the bride first. Please have your picture taken with the couple.
Now for the groom’s rivals, adversaries …
May we request those whose faces had been halved in previous photos with the bride, please step forward to get your whole image taken with the couple … now or never!
… or unduly reduced in previous photos with the groom, please step …
… you two. Don’t think we’ve forgotten that kiss! We’ll never let you forget that kiss!
…please. Will the driver of the pedicab kindly …
… officemates of the bride …
… officemates of the groom …
… again request the woman outside, she’s dressed in the motif …
Bridesmaids and groom’s men together now!
… Ma’am?
Okay then, let me ask the best man to join me, come on! Can’t allow these newlywed smiles to …
… help, you won’t miss her, just ask her to the altar … even her pedicab’s in the motif, yes please, she’s right outside …
Or if she’s hearing-impaired, can we call her companion, the cab’s pedaller … you, yes, can you hear … could she manage with crutches or should you lift her from the cab?
… of sunshine! Our happy couple!
… were you set to finish the ceremony out there, ma’am?
Can’t allow these newlywed smiles to …
May we call on the friends of – I think – the groom to lift the pedicab if necessary, they should be quite light enough to join – kindly – the new couple for a once-in-a-lifetime photograph!
