I grow up in the south of France, in Nice. Here, the Carnival is celebrated since centuries, with its uproars, costumes and masks. When I was young, each year, I took part in this event in wonder : all the elements changed places, acquired a new status, favourable to laughters and criticisms. The HandHead project is the result of several years of researches and artistic realisations, about these themes : the distorsion and the upheaval of the body and its components.

The hands of a human being are as expressive as the face and the multiple emotions that it betrays. Every movements, positions, attitudes can be assimilated to facial expressions. In addition to the burlesque nature that comes out of this series of photographs, the uneasiness must be aroused on the spectator’s mind. The re-arrangempent of a part of the human body at the place of an other, combining the special features of each of them, is not an insignificant operation. In what the body that we know and live with every day is a standard ? This idea of interchangeability of elements interrogates the notion of identity, handicap and monstruous too. Through each of my works, I try to re-consider the way that the human being vests with his own body, and how he can adapt himself to restrain and physical modifications.

The face is not visible however every emtions and interactions betray through the posture of this substitutehand. More than a mask, this tranfer serves to reveal something new at our sight.
