This work came as a response to my 2011 trip to Turku where I was lucky enough to exhibit with two other artists, Tiina-Maria Aalto and Marcela Trsova. We spent our time travelling between a summer cottage just outside Turku and the city itself. Our cottage life, with no running water, fishing, mushroom and berry picking, contrasted with the urban concrete beauty of Turku city. This must have effected me because on the plane home I started drawing these images. For a long time I have been working on pictures of hung game, inspired by Dutch still life paintings, but never felt I had got to the core of my interest in them until now. This work fits into my wider themes at the moment, of finding wonder and the uncanny in urban landscapes, contrasting the mundane with the mystical.
