Each charcoal drawing is isolated in light and space like a statue. They act in ways similar to figurative sculptures frozen in the midst of life, and captured to tell a story anyone may relate to. With my drawings I want to help people connect and contemplate how they are feeling. Aside from the physical aspects of solitude there are also ways of become mentally and emotionally withdrawn. We all select certain parts of ourselves stay inside, secretly searching for understanding and comfort in silence.
“Nude with Fabric” is a reflection of solitude, suspended in the void of darkness. An understanding of the self, the awakening of innocence and spirit. Before we can understand others, we must first understand ourselves and accept all that we are in order in order to help others accept themselves. A universal concept both mysterious and captivating for me, because it never really seems to end. We must always resort back to ourselves for everything.
