A series of thirteen (6 seen here) mushroom portraits watercolor & found paper doll limbs on found paper, 2011
‘The fruiting body’ is a series of watercolor and found paper doll limb studies of ‘the fungus i found while in stowe’ a foraging project created during residency at the Habitat for Artists program, a communal work shed along the Stowe Recreation Path, sponsored by the Helen Day Art Center, Stowe, Vermont.
Moving to Stowe the day after the epic floods of Tropical Storm Irene, there were the fruiting bodies of fungus erupting everywhere. I spent four rainy weeks camping on the mountainside. Each morning on my descent to the studio, I would forage for fungus while hiking through the woods; then at the studio, identify, sketch and document the myriad of fungus I found.
