Valerie Sauve is an artist and illustrator. She uses marks to create simple and detailed pieces. She chooses materials that are ordinary, mass produced, recyclable, such as the biro pen, pins, polythene bags, lasagne sheets, envelopes. They are writing tools and surfaces to draw with, make collages, or reconstruct objects. They have a given scale and a colour palette. Inspirations are about a faulty memory, the poetry of dreams, grand illusions, a recurring concern of the lone figure in perpetual movement venturing into the constructed world — they are real symptoms of daily life, our common humanity.

She lives in central London with her six children.
