Still Life 2011–2
In this series I use found and sculpted objects to reconceptualise ideas about desire and consumer pleasure through still-life compositions. They reflect my current research into the relationship between food and sex in seventeenth century Dutch genre paintings. In the work I employ the use of objects as symbols of the female body and consumer culture. Like the use of symbols in Dutch painting, the messages described by the symbolic objects are held below the surface, ready to entertain a knowing audience.
